I wanted to introduce myself and say how excited I am to have such a place to watch others build and also to build my very own flats skiff. My name is Shug Clawson, I am the owner of Bonita Tackle and Bonita Bay Rods. We are a small Bait and tackle shop located in Bonita Springs, Fl. I have always loved the original "Whipray" from my childhood growing up watching Flip Pallot and the Walkers Cay Chronicles. I am so exited to be able to purchase the plans and build my very own Morejohn design Flats boat without the humongous price tag these companies are charging.
At the moment I am working on a J16 Carolina Skiff Kit boat as a bait boat for my bait business and custom rod shop. It will have 70 gallows of live wells running off 2 pumps and be tiller driven. this boat is being designed to chase pinfish, pass crabs, mullet, pilchards, blue crabs, fiddler crabs and other bait for my bait shop. planning to use epoxy to secure both front and rear decks in so the boat Is all one glued together piece as apposed to the drilled and screwed together way that most all Carolina skiffs are assembled.
Big shout out to Chris Morejohn for the designs and support he gives and to mantisinshore for putting this forum up for us to build, show off and help one another out. look forward to seeing how everyone else builds their boats. My Intention is to be very minimal with a tiller outboard, grab bar with my yeti as a center seat for on other angler and a poling platform. not seeing the need for all the other stuff that seems to go onto these modern day skiffs.
